At the time, my stepfather had been telling us stories of this place for months, but as usual we ignored him until we caught the blurb in weird new jersey.

Once we caught that - we put it all together and took the hour long trip.

Batsto Village is located in the pine barrens - the historic location of the new jersey devil. It can be traced back to the mid 1700's.  Its composed of 33 historic buildings. Surrounded by thousands of acres of woods, its a beautiful location.

Most ghost stories surrounding the village include the mansion.

One person claims they were walking the village late one night, they reached Whartons mansion and saw every light on in every window. Another person claims while taking pictures of the mansion - they saw someone looking out at them from an upstairs windows. Upon seeing this they called the ranger and were told numerous other claims were made of seeing someone in that very same window although no one had been inside the mansion in a year. The window is always the same - Third floor custodial side of the building.

These are all stories we've found from people we dont know, but we can go one better.

Whether its true or not, im not sure. It was told to me by my stepfather.

Some years ago - the mansion was open and lived in. My stepfathers good friend was staying in the mansion - he was dating the daughter of whomever owned it at the time. He went upstairs to wash his face & shave - in the mirror he saw people dressed in clothes that were out dated. Looking behind him, he saw no one. He looked back in the mirror - it was a whole family of people. Somewhat rattled he went downstairs to tell them what he saw. The owner of the home just laughed. He went on to tell him how there was a whole ghost family living there.

At the very least - haunted or not - its a great place to visit for a day.
