Update: 5/26/07
TOTTENVILLE: 3 YEARS
LATER
Near the Conference House, there's an abandon street (or two) that have 7 - 8 houses now standing abandon.
- Satterlee, Surf, And a small part of Billop -
This
spot isn't interesting for the fact that its haunted, but more for the fact of
what the people that once lived there left behind. Two houses are now burnt
down, one not as badly as the other (Probably due to arsonists.)
The road as of recent days is fenced off, as its becoming
part of the Conference House Park, at the end of Hylan Blvd. (The conference
house is rumored to be haunted, but there's no rumor of these houses being
haunted.) Weeks ago, when we made the accidental discovery of these houses, the
street was open and a few of these houses were still lived in. As we continued
making trips back, the rest became vacant.
I do stress being careful here if you make the trip. I'm not
sure how much longer these houses will be around but we've had some issues while
there.
The floors aren't all stable, such as in the half burnt down
house on Billop. As for others, Kids are just stupid. Seconds after coming out
of one of the houses closer to the beach, kids in a truck rammed the garage
door, this room had been redone over as an extra room with a pool table and
excursive equipment (still in the room). It came just seconds after we had left
the garage.
We suspect those same people could have been involved in the
second fire, as this was the house next door to the one they rammed.
We searched the houses to find any trace of who the people
were that lived there and why they left in such a hurry without anything. They
could have simply been evicted, which would make sense but something gave us an
uneasy feeling when we entered one home and found numerous NYPD uniforms.
We never really did find out who it belonged to, or who the
houses belonged to. Or even why there was so much stuff left behind. Most of the
houses were badly ravaged when we went in. But I cant stress the weirdness of
seeing these peoples lives spread out across the floors of various rooms.
Random things we found:
The police uniforms (by far the weirdest)
A full coffee pot, still on the stand. (Which happened to be growing mold)
School tests and work documents.
A happy birthday card posted on the wall. (which we have pics of)
Pool table, TVs, Stereos, Video games
Clothing.. besides the police uniform the fact that we found prom dresses and a fancy white dress (possibly a wedding gown but who knows) was a little strange too.
Newspapers that were written only a few days before we discovered them.
Random animal cages, Rabbit cages, what we could only assume was a goat pen, and a chicken coup were the most memorable. The chicken coup had hundreds of feathers all over, like the chickens had been there recently.
Also pretty random was on the side of one house, the main one with the newspapers, was a grave decoration. It was a heart on a stake. Across the street from where we found this was a crashed car, that looked like it also burned. Upon another visit, almost a month later the car was gone, and there was a yellow ribbon on the tree right next to where the car was. The ribbon wasn't there on our last visit.
